Here is the latest News for Auburn, Michigan.
Seasonal Brush Chipping (Spring 2026)
The City of Auburn’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will be chipping brush once a week in April, May, September and part of October and every other week in June, July and August, weather permitting. Typically, this service will be performed on Tuesdays, however exceptions may occur in which case it will be delayed 1-2 days. The DPW may also allocate time to chipping brush in the event of tree damage and broken limbs due to extraordinary weather events. Brush chipping is a service provided to help clear Auburn City properties of unwanted limbs/debris. Any small debris lying on the ground after pick up is too small and should be properly cleaned up by the homeowner. Any brush left lying in the out lawn for an extended period will be considered a violation of the city’s blight ordinance and will be handled as such. This includes leftover debris and failure to adhere to the following guidelines resulting in brush not being picked up.
Guidelines:
- Brush must be set out by 7:30 am on the day of pickup. (DPW drives a set route throughout the City.)
- Brush piles need to be manageable: Piles should be no more than 4 feet wide by 4 feet high. Piles should be placed in the out lawn (between the sidewalk and the street) in a neat and orderly way, with the cut ends facing the direction of traffic. DPW will not pick up brush piles that are in tangles.
- Maximum branch diameter is 6 inches and minimum branch length is 3 feet. This is for the safety of our DPW crew as these branches are fed directly into a chipper. Smaller branches, twigs, sticks, etc. should be bundled together and put out for GFL yard waste pickup on Wednesdays.
- Stumps, root balls, or any other large mass of brush will not be accepted.
Brush generated by a hired tree service or from the removal of a whole tree should be taken care of by the hired tree service or the resident.
Snow & Tell: Winter Tips (Winter 2025-26)
Tis the season for snow and ice and we need your help to keep our City looking great. Here are a few things to keep in mind this winter:
• Avoid the ‘Second Shovel’ (check out the diagram below)
• Winter parking rules are in effect. No parking on any street from 2 am – 6 am. (City Ordinance 70.04). It also helps to remove vehicles from the street during the day when snow plows are expected to be running.
• Snowplows are most efficient at 30-35 mph. Watch for plows and avoid driving or parking in their path. • Keep children safe by keeping them away from the roadside during snowplowing activities.
• Since the city streets are a major part of our storm water drainage system, we want to keep the streets and gutters free from ice and snow that can obstruct the flow of snowmelt. You can help by clearing snow, ice or debris from drain openings when you see it.
• Residents and business owners are responsible for removing snow and ice from any sidewalks that border the property. If you are able, try to help your neighbors who may not be able to clear theirs.
• It is prohibited to push/dump snow or ice from your driveway or yard onto any City street or sidewalk. (City Ordinance 95.082).
• Take it slow while shoveling snow to avoid overexertion. Push the snow rather than lifting it.
• Road salt works best between 20-30 degrees (F). At 10 degrees (F) it is barely working.
• Clear snow away from fire hydrants near you. This could mean the difference in an emergency.
• Take time to build a snowman or a snow angel.
New City Parking Lot (Winter 2025-26)
Sandwiched between Village Glass Works and Brad Martin State Farm Insurance is a new city gem: our new City Parking Lot! Gone is the blighted building that formerly stood at 114 W. Midland Road, replaced by a beautiful, clean, lighted public lot. At the back of the lot, you will see a half-acre green space the City is working to develop into a mini-park with trees, fencing, picnic tables and a bus stop. This space will be a gathering point for City events, and a great place to eat, study and meet outdoors. The parking lot property was donated to the City by the Steve and Deb VanTol Family, and the project was taken on by the Auburn Downtown Development Authority. The City is seeking grants to purchase and develop the mini-park. We hope you enjoy the new lot!

As the City moves forward, we do so with confidence knowing our office team is committed to service, accuracy, and community care. Thank you to our office team for all you do to support Auburn every single day.
Good Neighbors.. Assisting People in Need (Spring 2026)
Food, clothing and shelter are the necessities in life and prices of all three have skyrocketed. Where do you turn? A great option for clothing is the free clothing closet in Auburn called “Grace your Closet”. Did we mention it was free? Grace your Closet was started in 2017 to help those who are less fortunate. Currently they are serving 40-60 families and giving away approximately 1,300 pieces of clothing each month. The closet is located at Grace Lutheran Church, 303 Ruth Street. It is open to the community every third Saturday of the month from 9am-12pm. The closet is run by volunteers from the congregation and community who have a compassion for those in need. They accept donations of new or gently used clean clothes for children and adults. Due to space limitations, we cannot accept donations other than clothes, shoes/boots and coats. Donations are accepted on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00-12:00pm and the third Saturday of the month when we are open from 9am-12pm. Volunteer opportunities are on the third Tuesday (6-8pm) and third Saturday (9am-12) of the month. If you have any questions please contact Karla Weiss 989 245-8627

Dogs can make great companions, but they also need lots of care. Remember pets must always be under control and on a leash when outside.
It is also a pet owners’ responsibility to clean up any waste your pets leave when out for a walk. Licenses are required and are available from the Bay County Treasurer’s Office.
